Izzy Martin's 2010 Lark Camp Madrigal Class Notes and Music May 17, 2010 Hello Folks, Thanks for your interest in the Madrigal Class this summer at Lark Camp. I hope that you will enjoy singing these tunes as much as I do! Things to know about the class: We will be singing secular tunes written down in the 14th - 17th Century, mostly romantic love songs, some tragic, some funny. We will be learning about 2 - 3 tunes/class for a total of 18 tunes or more by the end of the week. We will take on some easy tunes, and some more challenging choices. Tunes will be in English, Italian, German, Spanish, and French, and we will help you with pronunciation. You should be able to read music to take this class. Most of the tunes we sing are written in 3 - 5 parts, and are quite complex. Sources for the tunes: Some tunes I only have as sheet music, which I will bring with me. Most of the tunes are in one of three "must have" collections of Madrigals: 1. "The A Cappella Singer: A Collection of Motets, Madrigals, Chansons, Carols, Ayres, Ballets, etc." Compiled & Edited by H. Clough-Leighter, and published by the E.C. Schirmer Music Company, originally in 1936. (aka "The Grey Book") 2. "The Oxford Book of English Madrigals" edited by Philip Ledger, published by the Oxford University Press in 1978. 3. "The Oxford Book of Italian Madrigals" edited by Alec Harman and published by the Oxford University Press in 1983. These books are available at various websites for $14 - $26 (used/new) plus shipping -- order now to make sure it gets to you before Lark Camp (they are sometimes out of stock.) Tunes we will be learning I will bring copies of music to the class. Please contact me to make arrangements to get copies of this music prior to Lark Camp.
